About Us

At Te Hihi we pride ourselves on providing a quality education to our students.  This is achieved through working alongside students so that they know what they are learning and why, and what the next steps in their learning are.

Te Hihi School is a full primary school, situated in rural Karaka (south-west of Auckland). It caters for children from New Entrants to Year 8 and the roll is currently around 230.

While Te Hihi School is located in a rural area, it draws its pupils from a blend of areas, predominantly those who live locally on "lifestyle" or rural residential properties. Those living on farms are reducing in number, reflecting the change in land use in the area. An increasing number of students come from urban areas.

Te Hihi School has a strong and consistent history of providing a safe, caring family environment for its children. The local community is encouraged to be closely involved in activities both in and outside the classroom while the school operates under an "open door" policy for parents and values a high level of communication between the community and the school. This has resulted in a strong sense of alignment in the values of the community, staff and board.

We encourage the children to live the school motto "Character Kindness Courtesy" so that they develop a caring attitude to their fellow students and a strong sense of pride in representing Te Hihi School. They learn to become independent to prepare for their ongoing education, and for their future.
