Welcome

Whether you are visiting our site to find out more about Te Hihi School, or a parent wanting to access information; welcome, nau mai, haere mai.
The school's motto of Character ~ Kindness ~ Courtesy is built into our school culture and always at the forefront. Along with our motto, our vision statement is "Creating the grounding for future growth". Our vision has four strands to it; preparing our students to be global citizens, connecting with real life learning through a balanced curriculum, acknowledging stewardship of the land (kaitiaki), and valuing positive relationships. The full vision statement is available here.
Te Hihi School started life on 9 March 1914 and on the weekend of 7-9 March 2014 the school will celebrate it's centennial. Latest NewsBarbarians Rugby DayYesterday, Sunday 26 May, eleven of our Year 5&6 boys headed over to Ngataringa Reserve, Devonport, to participate in the Barbarians' Rugby Fun Day. The boys played exceptionally well in this 10-a-side event and came up against some very good opposition. Although they only won one of their three games, they won the second half of their third game which was a gruelling encounter. An encounter of a different kind was when they met players from the Blues as well as Sir Graham Henry. We'll post photos on our sight in the next couple of days.Talent QuestWho needs X factor, when we have our own Talent Quest? We have many wonderful items which will entertain. Save the date - 31st May . 1pm start in the hall. Stranger DangerThe school has been warned that there is a man in a vehicle which we believe is a van approaching children and telling them to get in by saying "Mum has sent me to pick you up". This person has tried this approach around Hingaia Peninsula School, Waiau Pa School, Strathallan, and a number of Papakura Schools. Teachers have spoken to the children about the danger of getting into a car of someone they don’t know and we ask that you reinforce this at home.
Many years ago when there was another case of this type of behaviour my family came up with a code word so that if we were ever unable to pick up our children that we would give the driver this code word. Then my children were told that if someone told our children that we’d sent them to pick them up, our children were to ask what the code word was. Thankfully, we never had to use this strategy but our children still know that code word today some ten years later. Education Review OfficeThe school welcomed the Review Office into the school this past week to externally evaluate how well we are doing. Whilst the final report won’t be available for some weeks yet the following are some of the comments from the reviewers “the school has high quality teachers that focus on learning”, “the safe supportive environment allows for children to learn”, “the school offers quality learning opportunities”, “students are engaged, confident and happy”. | Quick LinksTo download an order form, click here, or for an order form for sushi, click here. |
