Dear Parents & Whanau,
Welcome back everyone! It’s great to be in Room 2 with a brand new class. We had a fantastic start with the children eager to contribute and excited about their learning. What a great bunch of children!!! We have a busy term planned with lots of exciting learning opportunities.
Maths
Cross Grouping: We are cross grouping in the Year 4-6 area again this year. Cross class or flexible grouping is used to maximise opportunities to tailor teaching and learning to students’ performance levels.
Literacy
Our Reading programme looks at the comprehension strategies of re-telling, predict/re-predict and paraphrasing. In Written Language, we are concentrating on writing biographies.
Topic Studies
Beach Education: The Beach Education programme is run in conjunction with Surf Saving New Zealand. It provides students with opportunities to develop personal skills, and to become active, safe and skilled in the beach environment.
Science
We will be making ginger beer and looking at the role of microbes (yeast) and sterilisation within this process.
Sport & Physical Education
Fulton Swim School is here again this year giving your children an opportunity to develop their swimming skills with experienced instructors in our own school pool. The latter part of the term focuses on Cricket, Touch Rugby and Softball in the lead up to our Summer Sports Day.
Parent Help
We will be asking for parent help at times during the term. Specifically for our Beach Education trip, Group Swimming and Summer Sports days.(See dates below). It would also be great to have some help on bottling day for our science unit. (Date to be advised)
Remember
Togs and towel need to be brought to school everyday.
