For those new to the school, Ag Day provides students an opportunity to enter a lamb, chicken, or goat and participate in the Ag Day event. Students not rearing an animal will complete an inquiry set by the teachers. The information Booklet will be sent home before the end of term which will give you more details about the day and raising animals.
Chicken order forms will be coming home with your children. Chickens cost $8 each and the forms are due back on Wednesday July 3rd (chickens will be delivered after the holidays on Friday July 26th).
If you are thinking of having a lamb or goat, they must be born between May 1st and July 31st.
We also need your help over the coming weeks as we get closer to the event:
1. We are on the lookout for a dunk tank – the kind that you can dunk someone in! If anyone has access to one of these or can make one – please let us know!
2. We need help with organising the Farmers Market during the lead up to Ag Day. The Farmers Market sells plants and produce, and organisation includes liaising with growers and sponsors prior to the day.
3. We really want to run the Young Farmer of Te Hihi competition again as it was such a hit with all the kids. Willie has offered to help organise this again, but he needs some assistance.
4. With any event, we are on the lookout for sponsorship and businesses to donate prizes for our mystery envelopes and raffles. Let us know if you have ideas of businesses, we could approach so our team can contact them. Last year, we had several families donate items for our raffles which were very much appreciated. If anyone could donate a new wheelbarrow, we would love it!
