Over the past two weeks, for our inquiry “Who we are..” in groups of three or four students we designed the display walls in Rutherford. We needed to collaborate to create borders, titles and the IB content. This process showed how could have a say in how the displays in our class look.
This year Rutherford’s Essential Agreement is depicted as a harakeke/flax bush. Each student wrote a description of a value that they wanted reflected in Rutherford’s learning space. Each student created their own harakeke leaf which has their specific value on it.
Another task was for each of us to design and create a visual frame for our published work. We used symbols and pictures to illustrate things that are important to us.
Below are some photos of our Rutherford displays. Please feel free to come in and have a look.

Today we had a green and yellow mufti day to show our support for Australian school who have been affected by the bush fires over summer. We raised $239.70.
At the end of each term the school sends our attendance data to the Ministry of Education for collation and analysis. Alarmingly, in term 4 of last year almost one quarter of our students had more that 10% absence which is the equivalent of one week off. Across all four terms, this adds up to a month.
Students can't learn when they don't attend school. This year we will be contacting parents as soon as your child's attendance is becoming a concern.
Obviously the end of the day is a busy time and traffic around the school can be chaotic. For the sake of stduent safety, please observe the following safety measures:
Thanks of your co-operation.
It has come to our attention that the pool gate is being left open while families are in swimming. The pool gate is not to be left open at anytime. It is the key holders responsibility to make sure the gate is closed and clicks locked after they have entered of left the pool area.
The umbrellas in the pool will be left up overnight providing the wind isn't forecast to get up. Although the umbrellas can withstand a good breeze we don't want them damaged. The umbrellas will be taken down at the end of the day on Friday and not be left up over the weekend.
