Hillary

In Hillary we have been learning about using sentences and full stops correctly to show one idea at a time. To do this, we have been crafting our six-sentence narrative stories. These are just some of the creatives stories we have come up with...
Once upon a time I met Ron. He lived in Hogwarts. He was good at making potions and magic. When Ron was making his potions he fainted. He was surprised when he woke up because he thought the magic trick would work. Ron tried the potion again and he turned into a frog.
Oliver Band

Once upon a time I caught a stegosaurus. He lived in the leaves. The stegosaurus was good at getting people with his spikes. One day he got me with his spikes. My stegosaurus was so angry that he tried to kill me. I lassoed him and we became best friends.
Cruz Du Plessis

Once upon a time there was a crazy turtle called Abbey. Abbey lived in a palace that sparkled everywhere. Abbey’s talent was swimming. Every time Abbey went swimming with the sharks they tried to eat her. Abbey felt so angry that her face went wrinkly and she threw a piece of wood. The wood hit the sharks and the sharks never came back.

Kiwifruit For Our Students

Thank you to Punchbowl Kiwifruit Services who will be donating a couple of boxes of kiwifruit every week for the children to enjoy. These will be given out one day a week.

It was wonderful to see the students enjoying this free fruit.

Grocery Hamper Raffles

Each year, we run our most successful Ag Day fundraiser – the Grocery Hamper Raffles. The success of these raffles is largely due to the support we receive from families in donating specific items that can be included in the hampers as well as the selling of raffle tickets prior to and on Ag Day.

Thank you for all the packets that have been coming in this week for our Grocery Raffle!

Next week we are collecting CANS

This could be baked beans, spaghetti, canned soup, canned fruit, coconut cream or anything that comes in a can!  Just remember to check that the expiry date is past 28/9/19.

Remember, for every item that is brought to school for the raffle, the students name will go into a draw for an exciting family prize which will be drawn during prize giving on Ag Day.  Details on the prize will be revealed soon!

Also, if you won a cup last year please make sure you think about cleaning it over the next couple of weeks as these are due back on Friday 30th August.  (Only clean it with SILVO silver polish)

Can you help?

Do you have a digger?

The school is in need of someone who has a digger and truck to come in and dig out the compressed bark and sand around our playground so we can fill it with new cushion fall.

Do you have a large hole needing to be filled?

Obviously, we are also after somewhere to dump the compressed bark and sand. Is there anyone out there who has a farm who can dispose of what is dug out?

If you can volunteer your services to help with either of these, please contact Janet Daubermann on 09 292 7706 or janetd@tehihi.school.nz

Poetry Recital

As part of our literacy programme the students in the Piwakawaka Team will be learning to recite (say by heart) a poem.

On 13th of September there will be a special assembly to present some of the student’s poems from each hub.

The students should be thinking about a poem to prepare and rehearse. They may dress up and use a prop as part of their presentation.

In class we will be covering the skills students need to work on. Should you wish to help your child prepare, please find the rubrics here.

Kind Regards,

Piwakawaka Teams,

Blake, Hillary and Taylor hubs.

Yummy Stickers

We need you to collect the Yummy cut-out labels from bags (each cut-out label is worth 10 stickers) and individual Yummy apple stickers and send into school to help our school get A SHARE OF $200,000 FREE DG SPORTS GEAR.

Yummy apples are available from New World, PAK’nSAVE and participating Four Square stores. The more you collect and send in, the more sports gear our school receives.

But wait there's more ... every child who brings in stickers receives house points!
