The school is running our annual Christmas Book Fair until Friday 29 November.
It is open every morning before school from 8-15 am until 8-45 am and after school school from 2-45 pm until 3-15 pm. This is a great opportunity for parents to pop in and have a look and do some Christmas shopping.
In Hillary this week we have been collecting a range of different materials to build an Insect Hotel. On Thursday we collaborated with Mr Marshall to decide the best place to construct our Insect Hotel. This special project was instigated by Mrs Whitehead who helped us to organise ourselves. Hillary would like to thank all the parents who have networked with us to make this amazing project which reflects how we share the planet with a range of different insects.
How to Build a Weta Hotel by Paige Admore
- Cut little pieces of bamboo.
- Drill two holes
- Thread the wire through the holes.
- Twist the wire together.
- Bend the wire to make a hook.
- Hang the weta hotel on a perfect tree.
Monday 11 November, the weather was bleak, and Rutherford was revving to go. Cars and trailers were packed, and off we went.
We went snorkelling at Goat's Island on our only sunny day. We saw a lot of wildlife, but due to the wild, wet weather, not as much as we would have liked.
We played loads of team building games.
We tried a lot of new things like stand-up paddle boarding.
We went on a kiwi hunt and that was cool!
We went on a scavenger hunt and learnt a lot of different things that we'd see on and around the beach. The caves introduced a lot of different kinds of rocks and rock formations.
The food was REALLY GOOD! We didn't go hungry. The nachos were a favourite, so were hamburgers, and the cooked breakfasts.
We all had fun on camp.
The certificates for ICAS Writing will be given out at the next SHINE assembly.
FoTHS are running their last Raffle for 2019 so help us make it a great one! There are some fabulous prizes to be won including 2 sports hampers filled with goodies and the book ‘Oh Boy’ signed by our very own Richard Taylor from Weta Workshop, the book ‘Oh Girl’ and cupcakes from Karaka Kitchen! All tickets and money need to be back at school by this Thursday 28th November, ready for the winners to be announced at our school assembly on Friday 29th November. Once again the family that sells the most tickets will win a special prize.
Pool keys for out of school hours use are available for purchase from the school office now and until Friday, 7th December. No pool keys will be available for sale during the last week of school due to workload demands. The pool form is available at the school office.
We are pleased to advise that the Franklin Local Board has provided a grant for $2000.00 to assist Te Hihi School with the pool costs, including a contribution towards utility costs, chemicals and water testing. We are very grateful to the Franklin Local Board as the pool running costs are substantial.
Although the solar heating will be operating each day during the pool season, the BOT cannot guarantee the temperature will reach and retain its optimum level.
Access to the pool facilities is by way of a key. The price of the key for out of school hours swimming pool use by Te Hihi School families is set at $155.00 for the season with a bond of $50 for the key that will be refunded upon return of the key. Although we expect to have the season run through to the end of March 2020, the Board may extend or shorten the swimming pool season subject to weather. There is no variation on this set fee.
Access will only be possible between 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays, and between 3:00 - 6:30 p.m. school days. All access keys will be de-activated at the end of the season.
Parent donations and fees must be paid in full before an access key can be issued or reactivated.
