We are constantly adding more functionality to our school app.
Did you know that from within the app you can let the school know:
- when your child is absent
- if you're picking your child up early
- if there is a change to how your child is going home?
From within the app you can also:
- read the current and past newsletters
- view the school's calendar
Once you've downloaded the app you will also get messages the school sends out about any bus delays, reminders about events coming up and notifications about many other activities and events.
Download the app
To download the app,
- go to Apple App Store or Google Play Store,
- search SchoolZine and install
- when you first open the app, you will need to search Asia Pacific Region for Te Hihi School
- then just follow on the on-screen instructions.
How easy is that!
There are many students turning up to school clearly unwell.
When your child comes to school unwell there is a risk that their illness will be spread to other students as well as staff. This week we have had four staff away ill. In the current staffing climate, finding relieving teachers is incredibly hard requiring us to rearrange staffing within the school. This means that there will be occasion when students will miss out on extra support or your child being placed into other learning spaces.
If your child is unwell before school, please keep them at home until they are better.
At this stage the school does not have any identified cases of measles. However, along with all schools in Auckland, the Minsitry of Education and Auckalnd Regional Public Health Service have sent our school information about what the process will be if one of our stduents presents or is diagnosed with measles.
In the meantime, we were asked to post this graphic into our newsletter.
As part of the information sent to the school, anyone under the age of 50 is encouraged to go and get at least one MMR vaccination. Many adults mistakenly believe that they had a measles-containing vaccine as a child, so it is important to try to check with your doctor if yo have in fact been vaccinated for measles. It is not too late in this outbreak to get vaccinated, in fact this is the best way to stop the spread of measles.
On Friday 13th of September there will be a special assembly to present a selection of the student’s poems from each hub. Please note the assembly will start at 1:30pm.
As part of our literacy programme the students in the Piwakawaka Team will be learning to recite (say by heart) a poem.
The students should be thinking about a poem to prepare and rehearse. They may dress up and use a prop as part of their presentation.
In class we will be covering the skills students need to work on. Should you wish to help your child prepare, please find the rubrics here.
Blake, Hillary and Taylor hubs.
Who will you be wearing your daffodil for?
Next Friday, 30 August, is Daffodil Day to raise money for the Cancer Society.
We will be joining the campaign by having a YELLOW MUFTI DAY next Friday and selling daffodil pins all week. If your child is joining in by wearing yellow, please send a gold coin donation. The daffodil pins will also be available for a gold coin donation.
It was wonderful for the school to welcome back one of our students who has had his own battle with cancer and is now on the way to better health. Without the generous support of people through fundraisers such as Daffodil Day, he might have been a long time away from returning to school.
Grocery Hamper Raffles
Each year, we run our most successful Ag Day fundraiser – the Grocery Hamper Raffles. The success of these raffles is largely due to the support we receive from families in donating specific items that can be included in the hampers as well as the selling of raffle tickets prior to and on Ag Day.
Thank you for all the cans that have been coming in this week for our Grocery Raffle!
Next week we are collecting Jars/Preserves
This could be jams, fruits, vegemite, marmite, peanut butter, pasta bake or anything that comes in a jar! Just remember to check that the expiry date is past 28/9/19.
Remember, for every item that is brought to school for the raffle, the students name will go into a draw for an exciting family prize which will be drawn during prize giving on Ag Day.
Newsflash
The prize is a Family Pass to the MOVIES!!!! (4 tickets to a movie of your choice valued at $78.)
Also, if you won a cup last year please make sure you think about cleaning it over the next couple of weeks as these are due back next Friday 30th August. (Only clean it with SILVO silver polish)
Please can we have all Ag Day cups and trophies returned to school by Friday 30 August.
The cups do not need to be cleaned as we will have them professionally cleaned.
We need you to collect the Yummy cut-out labels from bags (each cut-out label is worth 10 stickers) and individual Yummy apple stickers and send into school to help our school get A SHARE OF $200,000 FREE DG SPORTS GEAR.
Yummy apples are available from New World, PAK’nSAVE and participating Four Square stores. The more you collect and send in, the more sports gear our school receives.
But wait there's more ... every child who brings in stickers receives house points!
