Dear Te Kanawa Whānau

We hope you are all keeping well and have enjoyed the last two weeks in your holiday bubbles.

This term we welcome Mrs Bex Remington and Mr Samuel Kim to Te Kanawa. Bex will be with us every Monday - Tuesday and on even week Wednesdays. Samuel will be in Te Kanawa full time with Charlotte Stoppard and Karen Hood.

As we settle back into online learning and get to know our new teachers, we will have whole class hui (meetings) daily at 9am. Students can use the code tekanawa2021 to join these. Along with our morning meetings, we will have a 11am hui for anyone who missed the 9am meet or who needs help with the work assigned. In addition to these, we will also run an optional ‘digital skills’ hui each day. Last term we noticed some students had trouble with simple digital skills and have decided to run workshops to support them with these, such as submitting work online, uploading pictures and sending emails with attachments.

Our learning this week will focus on our inquiry unit for term 4 - all about inventors and innovators. Each day we will post 3 inquiry challenges for students to pick from. It is expected that they complete at least one of the challenges but are more than welcome to complete all three. In addition to completing an inquiry challenge, students will have maths and reading activities assigned to their Studyladder and Matific accounts. Students should read for 20 minutes each day as well, using our online platforms such as Epic and E-Platform or from books they have at home. We won’t have a CrossFit meeting in the afternoons but Mr Wilson will post daily P.E challenges for students to complete.

No learning tasks will be assigned on Friday, students can use this time to catch up on any uncompleted tasks from the week. However, on Friday different staff members will be hosting mini workshops for students to attend. These will be scattered throughout the morning and students are welcome to join as many of these as they wish. More information about this will come out later in the week.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us at tekanawa@tehihi.school.nz

Best Wishes,

Charlotte Stoppard, Bex Remington and Samuel Kim
